Payroll Senior Specialist - India (Pune)


Role Synopsis

As a Payroll Senior Specialist, you will be an integral part of our Operations & Advisory (O&A) team, a global shared services organization within People & Culture. O&A is responsible for innovating and delivering HR services and solutions for bp globally. In this role, you will be responsible for providing payroll delivery services for the UK, supporting internal PC&C teams, resolving complex queries, and offering expert guidance on payroll-related issues. You will act as a subject matter authority on payroll processes and will play a key role in ensuring accurate and timely payroll delivery.


Key Accountabilities

  • Act as a subject matter expert on payroll processes, providing support, guidance, and training to less experienced team members.

  • Manage payroll data and coordinate with our outsourced service provider to ensure timely and accurate payroll processing for the UK.

  • Review and approve pre-payroll run data and provide final sign-off before payroll is finalized.

  • Handle end-of-year and start-of-year payroll administration and processing activities.

  • Support audits and regulatory requests by providing accurate payroll data.

  • Resolve payroll enquiries and issues, acting as the first point of contact for complex queries.

  • Identify and implement continuous improvements to payroll processes.

  • Manage manual data entry for various deductions and leaves (e.g., family leave, sickness, equity awards).

  • Oversee the overpayments and reclaim process, ensuring consistent application of policy.


Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Education: A Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Payroll Administration, Human Resources, or a related field.

  • UK Payroll Experience: At least 5 years of UK payroll experience, with a focus on both hourly and salaried payrolls. You must have worked with UK Payroll within the last 12 months.

  • High-Volume Payroll: Experience processing payroll for a high-volume headcount of over 12,000 employees.

  • System Proficiency: Proven proficiency in using SAP (ADP Global View) and Workday systems.

  • UK Pensions: Strong experience in handling UK pensions (preferably NEST, Aegon), including uploads, reconciliation, and error correction.

  • Technical Skills: Advanced Excel abilities (macros, VLOOKUP, concatenate) for data analysis and payroll checking. Ability to perform manual Gross-to-Net calculations.

  • Statutory Knowledge: Sound knowledge of UK statutory requirements and regulations, including birthing parent pay, adoption pay, shared parental pay, sickness, NMW rates, NI categories, and termination calculations.

  • Behavioral Skills: Strong business acumen, customer focus, relationship management, and a proactive, solutions-oriented approach. High attention to detail and strong numerical skills are essential.

  • Working Hours: You must be able to work UK business hours and on UK working days.

Please note: This role is not eligible for relocation and is not available for remote working. Up to 10% travel may be required.
